Balancing the family budget can be very difficult, especially in hard economic times. Using coupons at the grocery store is one way to save money on getting things you use every week. Printable grocery coupons can save a large amount of money on your monthly grocery bills if you follow several key steps.

Instructions

1. Use double coupons for extra savings. But, the University of Illinois Extension service warns to know the prices on double coupon products because some stores charge more on their double coupon offers.

2. Combine your manufacturer's coupons with other store coupons. Many stores allow their coupons to be used with printable online coupons from the manufacturer.

3. Subscribe to coupon resources through email and the Internet. You can find many name brand coupons by signing up with manufacturer websites. There are also websites and blogs dedicated to posting the best deals of the week for stores and coupons.

4. Join or form a coupon clubs to maximize the number of coupons you find. People generally use certain coupons and throw the rest away. Trading coupons can help you find things you need and help others in your community find the coupons they need.

5. Get your local newspaper. The majority of coupons can be found in the Sunday paper. Also watch for weekly store ads for sales to combine coupons.

6. Be creative in locating coupons. Ask friends, family or neighbors for their unread newspapers. You may also consider asking your local library or businesses if you can have the coupons from their papers if they don't use them.

7. Take all your coupons with you when you shop, recommends the University of Illinois Extension. Not all sales are advertised and you may be able to combine coupons with the unannounced sales for extra savings once you get to the store.
