Properties Of Rice Bran Oil

Rice bran oil has a mild nutty flavor. It can be used for everything from salad dressing to an oil for deep frying. Rice bran oil is versatile and nutritious, making it a healthy addition to every kitchen.


Vitamin E


Rice bran oil is high in the form of vitamin E called tocotrienols. This form of vitamin E is also high in antioxidants.


High Heat


Because rice bran oil has a low linolenic acid level, it is stable at high temperatures. The molecules in the oil do not break down under normal cooking temperatures, making it ideal for high-temperature cooking.


Calories


One tablespoon of rice bran oil contains 120 calories. It has 15 grams of fat and three grams of saturated fat according to the USDA.


Cholesterol


A study conducted by scientists at the University of Rochester in 1996 found that rice bran oil was effective in lowering cholesterol in rats.


Prevention


The same University of Rochester study found evidence that using rice bran oil over a long period of time might help to prevent cancer and some infections.
