Cheesecloth is such a simple item, but it has unending uses in completing household tasks and chores. Originally, cheesecloth kept cheese fresh and mold free in its use as a cover. It was also used to make clothing during its earlier years, and after that the uses grew. Often cheesecloth is compared to gauze because of the similar look and consistency. When looking for cheesecloth you will want an undyed, white, thin cotton fabric. This fabric is loosely woven and very light weight. Several different grades exist, which means you can choose the strength of cheesecloth you want. The grade refers to the thread count per inch, which determines the texture and strength of the cheesecloth. There are five grades of cheesecloth: 10, 40, 50, 60 and 90. Ten grade is the thinnest consistency and 90 is the thickest consistency.
