A food stamp EBT card is what you use to pay for groceries when you are on food stamp assistance. A food stamp EBT card is a more subtle way to tap into the food stamp assistance program than methods used in the past. While each store may have a slightly different way of utilizing an EBT card, these are the general steps for using one to purchase groceries.
Instructions
1. Choose your groceries for purchase with your food stamp card. Make sure that you only purchase food stamp program allowable items.
2. Take your food stamp EBT card to the register and alert the clerk that you will be using it to pay for your groceries, before they start to ring up your purchases. Swipe your EBT food stamp card once they have finished.
3. Enter your food stamp EBT card pin number, very similar to the way that you would with a debit or credit card.
4. Protect your food stamp card and make sure to keep your pin number somewhere safe, as just like with a debit or credit card; if someone knows your in they can deplete your food stamp balance.
