Use Fresh Chicken Manure

Chickens provide useful manure, but unprocessed fresh manure is too "hot."

The safest way to use fresh chicken manure is on a dormant garden or to kill off the existing plants from an area that you need clean to use for gardening the following season. Spreading fresh chicken manure even a few feet away from crops can still lead to possible salmonella risk. Composted chicken manure can be used on any garden provided it has sat for at least one year, otherwise it will burn plants as it decomposes. A "chicken manure fertilizer tea" made with fresh chicken manure and water to feed and water plants is one of the best ways to use this manure. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place a heavy rock in a burlap bag for weighting purposes. Use a shovel to place fresh chicken manure into the bag until nearly full.

2. Use a large trash can for crewing your fertilizer "tea."

Place the bag in a 40-to-55-gallon trash can. The can can be either plastic or metal. Fill the can with water and allow mixture to sit for three to four weeks in full sunlight. During this time the water will become infused with the nutrients from the chicken manure.

3. Use to feed and water plants for beautiful results.

After three to four weeks, use the mixture (water infused with manure) for watering garden plants and lawn, as well as for feeding plants.
