Be Relaxed With A New Boss

Meeting a new boss can be a scary experience.

When there is a new boss at your place of work, or you begin a job with a new company, it can be very stressful. A boss that is familiar with you understands your schedule, responsibilities, strengths and weaknesses. Whereas new bosses have to learn about your work capabilities, as well as who you are as a person. Behaving anxiously or nervously in front of a new boss may send a message that you're a less-than-ideal employee. So being relaxed when interacting with your new boss is essential to making the best possible impression.

Instructions

1. Get up early on the day you'll first interact with your new boss. This gives you extra time to prepare, so you won't start the day in a rush.

2. Eat a healthy, filling breakfast. When your body is given the fuel it needs, you feel less stressed.

3. Arrive at work a few minutes early, so you can begin working before the new boss arrives. This shows responsibility and eagerness for your job.

4. Watch your new boss carefully if he or she gives an introductory speech. New bosses often tell employees what kind of person they are, what their likes and dislikes are, and what their hopes are for the future. This helps you get to know your boss better.

5. Wait until your new boss is not crowded by other people and seems to have a moment of free time. This way, the attention will be completely on you, and he or she will not feel interrupted.

6. Take a deep breath, exhale slowly, and repeat this up to five times. This helps calm any nerves and can slow a racing heartbeat.

7. Greet your new boss with a smile and a firm, polite handshake. Introduce yourself by name, and tell your boss what your job title or responsibilities are.

8. Tell your boss you are excited to work for him or her and are happy to help in the transition. This will leave a good impression.
