Consume Chia

Top your favorite salad with a handful of Chia seeds.

Chia is a seed that dates back to the Aztec period, but it is widely known as the seed behind the "hairy" sprouts of the Chia Pet. According to Dr. Wayne Coates, an expert in Chia, it is "the richest plant source of omega-3 fatty acids and contains natural antioxidants." Chia is also high in fiber, protein and other nutrients. For this reason, Chia is a nutritious addition to any diet. It is very versatile and can be prepared in a variety of ways. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Sprinkle a handful of Chia seeds over your breakfast cereal in the morning. The seeds give an added kick of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and protein.

2. Add a tablespoon of Chia seeds to your salad at lunch time for added crunch and nutritional benefits.

3. Mix 3/4 cup of Chia seeds with the milk and allow to sit for 30 minutes. The seeds will become gelatinous after sitting in liquid, creating a healthy, raw pudding. Flavor with vanilla extract or honey, if desired.

4. Crack an egg, beat it then dredge your fish through the mixture. Sprinkle Chia seeds over both sides of the fish and then pan-fry. The seeds will create a crunchy, nutritious crust on the fish.
