Ideas For King Size Headboards

Art Headboard

If you don't have a headboard in your bedroom you can create your own. It's an easy and affordable weekend project. There are many different ways to create your own headboard, so take time to research your options. Try visiting your local thrift store or flea market for ideas on headboards and unusual materials for creating your own. Take a trip to a design store for design ideas. Because headboards tie the room together and are usually the focal point in your bedroom, creating one of your own will be a fun way to personalize your bedroom. Does this Spark an idea?

Headboard Ideas

One way to create a headboard is to use art. You can create your own canvas using paint or enlarge your favorite photograph. For a king-size headboard, try putting up a few different pieces of artwork in matching frames. When you want to update the look of your room, switch out your art, and you have a new design.

Mirrors make attractive headboards that are very affordable. Grouping together small mirrors over the bed creates height and brings light into your room. Typically small mirrors are very affordable and easy to hang using small nails. They come in various colors, so you can create a one-of-a-kind headboard.

Using wall flats (a type of embossed wallpaper--see Resources) can create a visually appealing headboard. Because they come in different patterns you can choose the one that best fits your style. Typically they come in off-white but can be painted any color. Hang them above your bed and up to the ceiling for a dramatic headboard. Try installing just a few rows of panels with a ledge above to use as a bookcase or area to showcase your favorite photographs.

If you have a small bedroom serving as a multipurpose room, try creating a wall divider. Cover a large piece of plywood in your favorite fabric or wallpaper and hang it from the ceiling. Not only will this serve as a headboard, but it will also break up your room creating two separate living areas.

Another way to create a headboard is to use fabric. Hanging curtains or your favorite rug behind the bed creates drama and height in your room. Use a curtain rod at the base of the ceiling to hang your curtains. Make sure the rod is 2 feet longer on either side so the material drapes past the edge of the bed. When you want to update the room, change out the fabric and you have a whole new headboard.

Old doors make for really neat headboards and because they are usually long, they work great for king-size beds. Old doors can be found at antique stores or even in your garage. They come in various types of wood that you could try staining or painting. Try hanging the door horizontally for a traditional style headboard or put two doors together vertically. Remember to fasten the doors securely to the wall because they are typically very heavy.
