Make A Homemade Dog Biscuit Treat With Rice

Homemade dog biscuits with rice are a healthy snack choice for your dog.

Dogs enjoy treats, such as dog biscuits, and owners often give dog biscuits as a snack or reward for good behavior. Commercial dog biscuits are made to meet the basic food and health requirements of your dog but often have preservatives in them or other ingredients that may bother your dog's stomach. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, or you prefer to know what goes into your dog's biscuits, homemade dog biscuits with rice are a good solution.

Instructions

1. Start cooking the dog biscuit ingredients on the stove.

Combine 1 1/2 cups white rice and 2 tsp. olive oil in a pot, over medium heat. Cook the two ingredients for two minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in 2 cups water, the thyme, garlic powder and bouillon cubes, then cover the pot and allow the mixture to cook for 15 minutes until the rice absorbs the liquid.

2. Brown the ground meat in a skillet, then drain the liquid or fat. Add the ground meat to the finished rice mixture along with 1 cup grated, mild cheese, such as Monterey Jack cheese or mild cheddar. Allow the mixture to cool completely.

3. Pour the cooled rice and meat mixture into a mixing bowl. Add flour 1/4 cup at a time, and knead it into the mixture with your hands. Continue to add flour and knead it in until the mixture is thick and doughy, like a chunky version of children's Play-Doh.

4. Roll out the dog biscuit dough with a rolling pin.

Sprinkle some flour onto your clean countertop. Lay the dog biscuit mixture on the flour-covered counter, then roll it out to a 1-inch thickness using a rolling pin.

5. Cut the dog biscuits out with a round glass. Place the drinking end of the glass on top of the dough and press down to cut out a circle shape. Place each dog biscuit dough circle on a baking sheet as you cut them out.

6. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bake the homemade dog biscuits with rice for 30 minutes, then remove them from the oven. After the dog biscuits cool, store them in an airtight plastic container with a lid.
