Store Yogurt

Properly stored yogurt is a healthful food.

People have been enjoying fermented dairy products such as yogurt for hundreds of years, if not longer. Yogurt is a fermented milk product that has been eaten since at least the 13th century. Today, yogurt can be homemade or purchased at a store. It can be low-fat or whole-milk, flavored or plain, but no matter which kind you choose or make, proper food storage will keep your yogurt fresh and safe. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Storing Yogurt Properly

1. Check the "best buy" date on the container to be sure the yogurt is still fresh. If you are storing homemade yogurt, label the yogurt container with the date the yogurt was made.

2. Keep the yogurt in its original container. If homemade, the yogurt should be put into sterilized containers while or immediately after it is made.

3. Put the yogurt into the refrigerator as soon as possible.

4. Use a fresh spoon every time you serve yogurt from the container, unless it is an individual-serving container. Do not eat from the spoon and then use it to scoop more yogurt from the main container.

5. Keep the yogurt tightly sealed.

6. Use the yogurt within one week of its freshness date. If homemade, eat the yogurt within one week after it was made.
