Some car stereos are equipped with short-range Bluetooth radio functionality. These car stereos can be made to perform as a cell phone. They use the existing cell phone to make and receive calls, while the interface, and audio output and input is handled by the car stereo--audio is output to the car's speakers. Turning your car stereo into a Bluetooth cell phone can be accomplished by pairing the phone with the stereo and then placing or receiving a call.
Instructions
1. Turn on the car stereo and place the phone into Bluetooth pairing mode. Usually there's a "Wireless Settings" or similar menu item on the phone. One of the sub-menu items is likely to be "Bluetooth."
2. Choose the car stereo that appears on the phone's Pairing screen. For example, if the car stereo is manufactured by Kenwood, Kenwood appears on the phone. Select it, and agree to the pairing.
3. Look for a "Device Registering" or similar option on the car stereo if the car stereo doesn't show up on the phone. Select it, and the car stereo will search for your phone, rather than the phone searching for the car stereo. If the phone sends a PIN code, enter it in the car stereo. Often, you use a control knob on the car stereo to select numbers. Turn the knob and press it to select the number on the display.
4. Look for "Pairing Success" or a similar message to appear on the car stereo and/or phone's display. Incoming calls are now diverted from the phone to the car stereo.
5. Press the "Phone" or similar button on the car stereo to receive an incoming call. Press the "Phone" or similar button and then the number to make a call. Check with your specific car stereo manufacturer for idiosyncrasies.
