Homemade Organic Face Oil

Homemade Organic Face Oil

Before the creation of cosmetic and skin care companies to make the concoctions that women slather on their faces to remain young and beautiful as long as possible, women turned to nature to help them maintain the health of their skin. Oils were used by women of all skin types to cleanse and nourish their faces for millenia, but became the enemy during the 20th century. Today, oils are again being accepted by women everywhere as effective skin care. You don't need expensive skin care to look your best--create some homemade organic face oils to meet your specific needs. Does this Spark an idea?

Purchasing Organic Oils

Find an online or retail source for organic oils. They are a little more expensive, but organic oils are made from fruits and nuts that are grown without pesticides, herbicides and preservatives. You will be using the purist ingredients on your face, which will help to cut down on the risk of adverse and allergic reactions. Determine your skin type and what oils will work best for your type of skin. Due to the individual qualities of each oil, like shelf life and stability, you will probably need to figure out a blend of oils that address the specific requirements for your face. Plan on buying and making small quantities of face oil until you settle on the right formulation for you.

Oily Skin

Use oils with astringent qualities to hydrate your skin while combating excess oil. Hazlenut, grapeseed and fractionated coconut are all non-comedogenic oils that will not clog your pores. Rice bran oil is praised for helping to keep oily, acne prone skin under control and jojoba oil is known for balancing skin's production of sebum. Blend essential oils of basil, cedar wood, rosemary, cypress, lavender, eucalyptus and ylang-ylang into your base oil to normalize and tone your skin.

Normal Skin

Try camellia, macadamia nut, squalene, jajoba and rose hip oils on normal skin. These oils are nourishing without being heavy, calm the skin and do not have astringent properties. You may wish to add a tiny bit of an oil for dry or oily skin to your base if your skin shifts to one of those extremes during different seasons. Add the essential oils of rose, geranium, neroli and lavender to your normal skin base oil to keep your skin clear and toned.

Dry Skin

Applying a combination of richly moisturizing oils like avocado, sweet almond, macadamia nut, rose hip and squalene to damp dry skin can help to seal in moisture and to enhance your natural skin oils. Placing a few drops of chamomile, atlas cedar, ylang-ylang, palamrosa, carrot see, vetiver, cypress and neroli essential oils in your dry skin oil base can help in soothing often irritated dry skin and improve your skin tone.

Mature Skin

Restore the youthful appearance of mature skin with a blend of fractionated coconut, camellia, evening primrose, macadamia nut and argan oils. These oils are nourishing without being heavy and contain large amounts of antioxidants to fight the effect of free radicals and sun damage to the skin. Complement the age fighting effects of your mature skin oil by adding some drops of neroli, geranium, rose, fennel and clary sage essential oil to your oil blend.
