Sell Baby Cots

Sell your baby cot using several approaches to reach more buyers.

Your baby is grown and now you need to sell your gently used baby cot (also called a baby crib in the United States). Whether you choose to sell your baby cot online, at a garage sale or place an advertisement in your local newspaper, you must take certain precautions when selling baby furniture. Some baby cots and cribs have been subject to recalls for safety reasons. Other cots may be subject to safety warnings about potential hazards to infants. Sell only baby cots that meet or exceed consumer product safety requirements.

Instructions

1. Determine if the cot you intend to sell meets safety standards or has been recalled. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) promulgates rules and regulations for consumer goods, including baby cots and beds. Check the minimum safety requirements for baby cots and cribs at the Consumer Protection Commission website Cpsc.gov. For instance, slats can be no more than 6 cm. apart, the mattress must fit snugly in the bed, the lowest position of the side rail cannot be less than 12.7 cm. or more than 55.9 cm. All hardware must be designed so that the baby will not be cut, pinched or crushed by the cot parts. Test the mattress by trying to insert two fingers side by side between the mattress and the crib. If you can fit two fingers perpendicular between the cot and the rail, the mattress is too small.

2. Sell your baby cot online. Register an account with an online selling site like eBay. The Nappy Valley website caters to the buyer and seller of baby cots and other baby items. The website Kidspot.com.au is a free site for selling baby cots and goods in Australia. Search the Internet to find a list of many sites where baby cots are sold. Include photos in your advertisement. Photos should be clear and taken from different angles so that the buyer can clearly view the condition of the cot.

3. Hold a yard sale. Sell your baby cot at a garage sale or in a community yard sale. Baby goods sell quickly at open air events like yard and garage sales. People shop for bargains, so price your baby cot to sell. Present the baby cot completely assembled with the mattress installed properly so that potential buyers can judge the safety of the cot for themselves.

4. Place an advertisement in your local paper. The "for sale" section of your local newspaper classified section is where you should sell your gently used baby cot quickly. Some newspapers feature a special section to list baby items for sale.

5. Contact donation centers or resale shops in your area. Search online or in your phone book, and either write or call the place of interest to find out if they need or will agree to take your used cot. You should also ask what the process is for donating or selling the baby cot.
