How Long To Bake A Chicken

A chicken is cooked when its internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.

The best way to determine when your chicken is done is to check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. Chicken should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Place the thermometer in the thickest part of the meat, but do not allow it to touch the bone. An alternative method is to pierce the chicken and observe the juices and meat. When done, the juices will run clear and the meat will be white with no sign of pink. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Whole Chicken

A whole fryer or broiler chicken will take about 2 hours to cook in the oven at 350 degrees. Season your chicken as desired and place in a roaster pan. Cover it tightly and bake for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Remove the cover and finish baking for 15 more minutes. Check doneness with a meat thermometer.

Chicken Breasts

Bake seasoned chicken breasts in a casserole dish at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Boneless breasts will be done in about 45 minutes. Check with a meat thermometer or be sure that juices run clear.

Chicken Legs, Thighs and Wings

Bake chicken legs and thighs for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Wings will take about 25 to 30 minutes. Chicken legs, thighs, and wings cook faster than the larger bone-in breasts. Chicken thigh and leg quarters will take longer if cooked as one piece--about 1 hour. Check doneness with a meat thermometer.
