If managed properly, you can live in a camper for less than $1,000 per month.
Living with a camper has a lot of benefits. You can travel with your home, you don't have to pay a house mortgage or property taxes and, with the right planning, you can live more cheaply. Understanding the right steps to living with a camper can make your cost of living a lot less expensive. But if handled improperly, campers can actually add to your living costs.
Instructions
1. Choose the camper. Cheap living begins when you decide to live in a camper. Avoiding monthly mortgage or rent payments keeps you much less tied down and allows you to save money more easily.
2. Purchase the right camper. You can get a used RV that is reliable and solid for about $8,000. Your savings will be a lot less if you buy an expensive new camper. This being a one-time purchase is a pretty cheap alternative to a house or apartment.
3. Save money each month for vehicle maintenance and repairs. By putting aside some money every month (between $50 and $150, ideally) and keeping up on routine maintenance, you won't find yourself reeling from a sudden big repair bill that shuts down your home and transportation.
4. Drive the camper only when necessary. Find a place to park that is close enough to walk to your job and shopping areas; a camper is never going to get great gas mileage so try to walk to places as often as you can.
5. Eat in and pack a lunch. You can buy food and eat in your camper for a lot cheaper than going out for meals.
