Take in-home cooking classes for culinary inspiration and training.
Many people wish they could cook for their family and friends, but simply lack the training and resources. Others simply wish they had more training to perfect the techniques they've acquired through informal learning. The Benefits
When you sign up for private in-home cooking lessons, you're paying for a personal chef to come into your home to give you one-on-one instruction. There are several benefits to this. First of all, you're on your own turf and using the familiar kitchen tools you'll use when the chef leaves. Secondly, you receive very personalized attention that you might not receive in other cooking lessons, because the teacher will work with your needs, space and your kitchen appliances and tools.
The Drawbacks
There are some downsides, too, to this type of instruction. Obviously, it can be very expensive. The lessons typically start at several hundred dollars for two hours, as of June 2011. Prices goes up for more people taking lessons or if your home is far away from the chef. Also, if you don't have a fully-equipped kitchen, you may be limited in the lessons and what you can make after the lessons are over.
Menus
The menus for in-home cooking lessons can be expansive if you live in or near a city. By searching the Internet, you can find private chefs and companies who offer these classes in your area. Some chefs specialize in baking, others in gourmet cooking, while some will simply help you get a handle on the basics of cooking.
Parties
While you may want one-on-one attention, companies also offer in-home cooking parties for adults or children. This is an idea for a girls' night in or a child's birthday party. Lessons learned open the door for neighborhood gatherings and playdates for children.
