Cook Tilapia In Tin Foil

Enjoy your baked tilapia with a side of vegetables.

Even with all of the concerns about fish these days, such as mercury buildup and overfishing, there are still a few species of fish that are affordable, sustainable and delicious. Tilapia is a favorite of aquaculturists because it can be easily farm-raised and is edible after only one year.

Tilapia can be prepared in many of the same ways as other fish. Baking it in tin foil is one method that is particularly easy and fast. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Spray the foil with non-stick cooking spray, to ensure that the tilapia does not stick to the foil while it is cooking.

3. Place the tilapia fillets on the tin foil. Brush the fish with melted butter or olive oil using a basting brush. Coat each fillet with some of the minced garlic and sprinkle each fillet with Old Bay seasoning.

4. Measure out a piece of foil that is the same size as the cookie sheet. Place the piece of tin foil over the tilapia fillets. Crimp the edges of the top piece of foil and the bottom piece of foil together to create a foil packet.

5. Place the tilapia in the oven for 15-20 minutes. You will be able to tell that the tilapia is done when the flesh is all white and flaky. To make absolutely sure that your tilapia is fully cooked, insert a meat thermometer. Tilapia should be between 140 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
