Field Trip Ideas For Preschool

Preschool is a school for children ages 3 to 6 years old. There is at least one teacher for each classroom, and the day consists of playing and learning. Preschool is a fun and safe place for children to learn about themselves and others. Some classes choose to go on field trips during the school year.

Setting a Date

Setting a date for your field trip is important. The season you plan on taking the field trip will play a big part in your decision. If you are taking a field trip in the fall, you probably won't even think about going to a water park. Choose a season and start looking into ideas appropriate to that particular time of the year.

Avoiding Bad Locations

There are some locations you can mark off the list immediately. Museums, movie theaters, shopping malls and planetariums are not good choices for a preschool field trip. The kids will not have the attention span or the discipline to enjoy activities that involve lectures or long periods of sitting still.

Choosing a Good Location

Pools, water parks, carnivals and parks are great summer field trip choices. Preschoolers love playing in water and riding on rides. These choices allow them to be active, which comes naturally to a preschooler.

Pumpkin patches, Halloween festivals and farms are great autumn field trip ideas. Most pumpkin patches have hay rides, a petting zoo, mazes and a pumpkin field, where you can pick your own pumpkin. Halloween festivals are fun because they involve games and candy. What more could a preschooler want? Farms are fun because of fall harvest. The kids can see crops being harvested and maybe even pick a sample to take home.

In the winter, look for inside locations. Good examples of indoor locations are Chuck E. Cheese's, a bounce house, or an indoor recreational complex. Chuck E. Cheese's is a restaurant that caters to children. It is filled with games for kids of all ages. A bounce house is a building that contains inflatables. Kids can jump and play all day. An indoor recreational complex usually has a pool, basketball courts and game rooms. Caretakers may choose to take games and toys to the recreational complex.

Spring is the perfect time to visit a botanical garden or a zoo. Botanical gardens are full of beautiful plants and rich fragrances. If you visit the zoo, you may get lucky and see newborn babies. Zoos also have picnic tables, which make serving a sit-down lunch to preschoolers much simpler.
