Make Homemade Organic Skin Care Products

Organic Skin Care Products

Homemade organic skin care products are made from natural, organic materials, and they do not contain the harsh chemicals that are found in most commercial skin-care products. Bath fizzies, lotions and soaps are among the products you can make. The materials you will need can be found in the Resources section at the bottom of the page.

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine the baking soda and the citric acid. Mix in the essential oil, blending thoroughly. Pour witch hazel into an empty spray bottle. Spritz the dry ingredients in the bowl, mixing them with your hand. When the mixture starts to stick together, press into a soap mold. Pop the fizzy out of the soap mold and place it on a dry counter top. Repeat for each bath fizzy.

2. Pour beeswax pellets into an empty coffee can. Place the coffee can in the top of a double boiler. Fill the bottom of the double boiler half full of water, then place the top portion on the bottom portion. Melt the wax. Place a candy thermometer into the hot wax. When the temperature reaches 110 degrees, remove from the heat. Heat the olive oil in a pot, measuring the temperature with another candy thermometer. When the temperature reaches 110 degrees, pour it into a blender. Pour in the wax, aloe vera gel and essential oil. Blend until the mixture if fluffy, which will be about 7 to 8 minutes. Pour the lotion into a jar or a bottle. Let it cool completely, and place the lid on securely. Refrigerate until use.

3. Combine the lye and the water in a glass measuring cup. Avoid getting the lye and lye fumes on your skin or in your eyes by wearing safety goggles and rubber gloves. Place a candy thermometer into the measuring cup. While the lye is heating up, combine all of the oils into a stock pot, and heat it over medium heat. Place an additional candy thermometer into the pot. When both the lye and the oils reach 110 degrees, pour the lye into the oils. Stir well until the mixture becomes thick, like pudding. Pour the mixture into soap molds, leaving them for five to seven days. Remove the soaps from the molds and place them in a cool place for five to six weeks to enable them to cure.
