Decorate A Southernfood Restaurant

A Southern-food restaurant should have themes that remind customers of the South.

Southern cooking often has a down-home feel to it and this type of cooking also is known as comfort food by those who love Southern cuisine. When you decorate your Southern-food restaurant, you want to use as many Southern-themed influences as possible but not go overboard with your decorations. You also can get ideas for a Southern-themed decoration by reading magazines such as "Country Living," "Southern Living" and "Better Homes and Gardens." If you have some relatives who live in the South but you live in a different region, call them and ask for suggestions.

Instructions

1. Put some Southern-themed framed pictures and posters on the walls. Visit some local thrift stores and antique shops and seek out pictures and posters that have the kind of Southern themes you're interested in. For example, if your restaurant specializes primarily in Southern soul food, look for posters of African-American soul artists such as Aretha Franklin, James Brown, The Temptations and The Supremes. Also seek out framed pictures of African-American families.

2. Paste album and CD covers of Southern-themed music on the restaurant tables. Some good artists' covers to use include Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, The Carter Family, Reba McIntire, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and George Jones.

3. Use country-themed chairs and tables for the restaurant. If your restaurant is in the South and you have relatives there, ask them if they have any old tables and chairs that you can place in the restaurant. Also visit some vintage furniture stores in your area and ask the clerks what types of chairs and tables would work for a Southern-food restaurant. Place some of your old collectibles, such as dolls, decorative saucers and postcards, on the tables.

4. Paint your walls with subtle but not boring colors. If you love neutral colors, paint your walls in colors such as a deep orange, golden yellow, medium brown, light gray or a teal color. If you're using posters on the walls, choose paint colors that bring out the colors in the posters.
