Kill Fire Ants In The Garden

Fire ants are small creatures that range in size from 1/8 to 1/4 inch. They are both brown and red and are known as one of the most aggressive species of ants on the planet. When their mound is messed with, they will come out in angry droves to sting anyone unfortunate enough to be near it. Unlike regular ants, fire ants will sting their prey multiple times. Several methods, such as dry ice and a lye soap/water combination, will rid your garden of fire ants. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Dry Ice

1. Make a hole at the bottom of your fire ant mound.

2. Place a chunk of your dry ice into the hole.

3. Push the dry ice to the bottom of the hole with your piece of rebar. The queen fire ant will be killed and when she dies, the rest of the ants in the mount cannot survive.

Lye Soap

4. Safeguard your hands by making sure you use work gloves. Lye soap can cause extreme burns.

5. Mix 1/2 bar of your lye soap (a natural ingredient) with 5 gallons of water. Pour your solution around the fire ant mound. This will prevent them from escaping.

6. Create a commotion in the ant mount and make sure it is soaked thoroughly.
