Find Out Of Print Published Books

Old books rest on a shelf

After books are out of print, it can be very difficult to find them for sale. Regular bookstores will usually stop carrying them. However, there are still steps that you can take to find out of print published books.

Instructions

Find Out of Print Published Books

1. Write down as much as you know about the book. Title, author and publisher are key pieces of information. It is also helpful if you know the year it was published. If the book was written after 1966, it will have an ISBN number assigned to it.

2. Visit Bookfinder and search for your out of print published book. This is a database that will search the records of many online booksellers, including Amazon. There might be several entries that match what you are looking for. Be sure to check each one.

3. You can also try auction sites like eBay. Try different keyword combinations like the book name alone and name + author.

4. If you find the book for sale online, read the details very carefully. Booksellers have a very precise language for describing the books they are selling, so make sure your book is in the condition you want. Visit sites like BookThink to learn some of the terminology used.

5. Look in your phone book for used book sellers and dealers. They might have the book in stock or be able to tell you where to find it.

6. Try contacting the publisher to see if they have any copies left or have information on where to buy the book. This is more likely if the book recently went out of print.
