Start A Muffin Mix In A Jar Business

Selling muffin mix in a jar can be a fun and profitable business venture.

Almost everybody loves to eat muffins, so giving them as gifts is a wonderful treat. But with today's busy lifestyles, not everybody has time to bake a batch of muffins and package them properly for giving. With muffin mix in a jar, everything is done for both the gift giver and receiver aside from the actual baking. Selling all of the muffin ingredients in a decorative jar can be a profitable business venture.

Instructions

1. Create a business plan including the name of the business, your goals, the types of muffin mix that you want to sell, how you want to package them and the cost of supplies you will need. This will help you determine the start-up costs for your venture.

2. Contact your county health department for a list of kitchen facilities that are approved for commercial food preparation. Food-related businesses must operate within a commercial kitchen that is not used for any other purpose such as with a personal home kitchen. If you have your own commercial kitchen facility, have the health department inspect the building for approval.

3. Get a business license and food permit from your local county clerk.

4. Obtain liability insurance to protect you in the event a customer claims food poisoning.

5. Apply for a free federal tax identification number or EIN by visiting the IRS website. This number will be necessary if you hire an employee.

6. Advertise your muffin business by creating a website, handing out business cards and placing advertisements in a local newspaper.

7. Take orders for your muffin mix in a jar over the phone and from your company website.
